Two Down, One to Go

The Senate passed Bill C-38 last night, which could receive Royal Assent as early as sometime today.

Of course there were the normal objections from various senators:

It [a motion to define tradition marriage as a union between a man and woman and civil marriage between two people] would have brought a great deal of comfort to same-sex couples that they would not be perceived as having somehow gained their legitimate rights at the expense of those for whom the traditional marriage of a man and a woman was so terribly important.

And ye olde slippery slope argument, although I will give Senator Gerry St. Germain props for not trotting out the traditional next steps after same-sex marriage is legalized: bestiality, pedophilia, and polygamy.

If we don't stop this ... I know what the next steps are. Euthanasia. Decriminalization of marijuana.

But C-38 passed anyway.
