Don't Take my Word for It

I've never liked either the 19th-century Czech poet, Karel Jaromír Erben, or his masterpiece, The Bouquet (Kytice). While I can appreciate Erben's importance as an astute recorder of folktales, as an author his work has always been too didactic for my sensibilites. At the point in time when I was reading tonnes of Erben, he only existed in the Czech original. Those of you who were subjected to my whining about it, only heard about Erben through my biased summaries of his ballads. Now, dear anglophone friends, you can read him in English.
