I now realise why most people with authority and experience advise graduate students not to be seriously involved with someone else (usually a civilian) during their studies: once it is discovered that life outside of academia is too good and too easy to enjoy, it becomes a drug, something of which the graduate student can't get enough and it begins to encroach on time that should be dedicated to academic pursuits. Graduate students then begin to question the traditional life of graduate students and begin to shift priorities, while searching for a better balance between life and work. Heck, they even begin to look at graduate studies as "work" and not as the higher calling their advisors believe it to be.

All of this to say that after two weeks off, it's going to be tough getting back into the flow of things this week. -Zh.
