Tomorrow we finish the chapter in Let's Talk About Life about Russian rock by writing a test and explaining to our good friend Ivan Durak that American rock music isn't as shallow as he seems to think it is. We have to do this because all Russian rock is serious and critical of society. The Russians, even when rocking out, don't like to have fun. If there's no depth, it can't be consumed. I wonder why language courses never teach students about the sillier sides of cultures, about the fluff that they produce and consume. Well, here's my small effort in the regard. Over at Enthusiastic but Mediocre, there's a round-up of the Russian pop charts. It's nice to see that they're gobbling up a healthy dose of junk with their DDT. -Zh.
