Second only to the actual country that wins a major soccer tournament, Toronto is the place to be.
My favorite soccer-related Toronto memory occurred during the World Cup. Senegal had beaten France on a Sunday. K. and I were waiting for the west-bound streetcar at St. Clair and Winona, which has one of those islands in the middle of the street. The light turned red as a flock of full, honking cars surrounded us. The doors of most of them opened up and the streetcar island was suddenly full of dancing Senegalese. The light changed and they all returned to their cars and drove off.
Excuse me, while I deal with a bout of unexpected (and rare) homesickness. -Zh.
