Indiana Ho!

After much e-mailing and needless hand-wringing (because I would have been stark raving mad not to go), I shall be heading off to Bloomington, IN this Saturday for eight weeks at a Russian-language boot camp. I'll be happy that I went once it's over. In fact, I'll be happy when it's over. Advanced language learning is one of the hardest and most eye-bleedingly boring things one can do. Oh well, what doesn't kill me, will only improve my chances on the job market. There's also quite a bit of satisfaction knowing that the U.S. State Department, which hates all humanities scholars, even though we tend to possess better language proficiency than most (I said, "most" so if you're an economist fluent in a second and third language, don't complain. You already know that you're in the minority.), is footing the entire bill. Heh! Refuse to pay for one of my trips and I'll get you for another. Sucka's! -Zh.
