Looking at the program for the Russian Nights Festival I was excited for a minute, when I thought that there would be a screening of a Dovzhenko film that I haven't seen, but then I realized that I know it by its Russian title. So I won't be cursing the fact that I don't live in L.A., because the rest of the program looks lackluster. When are people going to stop trotting out Andrei Voznesenskii for poetry readings? He is better than his contemporary Evgenii Evtushenko, but that's not difficult. Really. But if anyone goes to the film on closing night, could you please report back?
