In the foodie world, one of the major questions earlier this summer, along the lines of those stupid pairings in Russian literary studies (Dostoevskii or Tolstoi? Akhmatova or Tsvetaeva?) used to decide what kind of person you are (FYI: Tolstoi and both), was "Do you like Amanda Hesser?". My answer: I can't be bothered to decide. Now, however, she has written a cookbook review, for which I respect her immensely. It really isn't that difficult or time-consuming to cook from scratch, it does taste better, and no one needs to cook à la Sandra Lee. -Zh.
